I have been active in professions that involve helping others for over 20 years, beginning with healthcare and social service and more recently as a dedicated career counselor in private practice for 14-plus years.
Before starting my own practice, I worked as a career advisor at two job-training facilities on the San Francisco Peninsula, and also counseled and advised students with career and/or academic concerns at De Anza Community College.
In addition to my current role as private career practitioner, I have created and taught a variety of career-related workshops and classes at various Arizona community colleges, and at adult education and community centers in the San Francisco Bay Area. Examples of some topics I’ve developed and presented are:
- “Discover the Work You Love and Make it Happen”
- “How to Work Your Way Through Unemployment”
- “Re-Discover Yourself: Give Meaning to Later Years”
I have also written several articles about relevant career and workplace-related concerns that have been published on local jobnetwork.com. Additionally, I have been interviewed by the staff of The Arizona Republic and contributed to a number of their career related articles.
I have an M.S. Degree in Counseling with a specialization in Career Counseling from San Francisco State University. I have also achieved the designation of National Certified Counselor by the National Board of Certified Counselors, Inc., have the distinction of being recognized as a Master Career Counselor by the National Career Development Association, and hold career counselor licensure in the state of Arizona, granted by the Industrial Commission of Arizona.
I have completed additional training that qualifies me to administer the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator, Strong Interest Inventory, and Self-Directed Search in my practice. These are just several of many instruments and exercises that I use when doing self-assessment work with clients.
I am also certified in The Grief Recovery Method and, when applicable, can use this technique to assist clients who are experiencing grief/loss concerns due to unemployment or loss of career.
